lily patch
Garden Photos #13
lovely as always JoAnn
My monardas are pooping out.
Anyone else have that problem?
They are 4 years old.
Ge1836, oh my, love that Lily Elise! My bee balm (monardas) has start to dwindle in years past, so now I dig a clump of it up in the fall and separate it into little plants and replant it in the same area and then it comes back and is lush again for quite a few years. I wonder if it heaves a bit like Heuchera or if it just runs out of steam.
I got up and out for a bit yesterday, so here are some unlabelled collages of some shots I took. Feeling better today, so I may get them Id. Enjoy. Patti
Great info Patti. I was hopeing someone would say Monards are temporary and I should go ahead and plant tall garden phlox instead. The spot is richer than Monards like it as well.
Great photos.
Just beautiful Patti!! I'm glad your feeling better. ^_^
Jo, im in love with that lily 'Elise', it stunning! Lord knows I don't need another lily but that one went on my list!
Last one today. The double yellow is H. Shaman's Magic that I got from an old 2006 coop from Hansen. Those were the good old coop days.

Jo Ann, don't take me at my word, but for me they have been easy to divide and spread about. I do it in the fall, but for you being colder, you could do it in late summer or even early spring as they come up early. It is like any member of the mint family and will keep spreading if happy, but the initial parent plant will get old and die out eventually. Just cut it back to the ground and dig up a clump and plant little plugs of it in the same area like you would for a doing hair plugs for a thinning head. I got a new one this year called Purple Rooster, that is a yummy royal purple. I love Colrain Red too. Patti
That makes sense.Thanks.
warms, pinks, man they are all good Patti!!!
Patti, in your spider type picture....bottom left, is that "Dallas Star'?
Celeste, no not H Dallas Star as I don't have that one. I think that the spider is Hemerocallis Winds of Love while the one in the lower left is Hemerocallis Katy's Blue that came from Hill Gardens in Maine, now closed. Here is a close up. Hope I got them correct. I know the dark purple one is H. Vatican City, and am working on the other two names, but think they are H. Abbot's Magic (pink one) and H. Chicago Silver. Patti
Very nice pictures Joann and Patti! Love the Yucca, a friend gave me a little start of one and I can't wait until it is big enough to bloom.
Our bee balm 'Raspberry Wine comes up every yr but doesn't see to increase. A branch of the blue berry is shading it right now, should cut that back.
The lack of spreading is what I noticed too. Thats fine because I didnt want anything too out of controle.
Nice blooms Patti and everyone. Patti, what is the spikey plant in bottom left of the picture on Post #8697175? I saw that in a garden a few weeks back and I have been wondering since what it's called.
nice patti - sure looks close to dallas star
SOJ, That is Eryngium planum ‘Blue Cap’ or called Sea Holly
A new strain from Germany with a shorter more compact stature 24”-30” tall and darker blue flowers than the species. Eryngiums are fantastic garden plants for poor soil (not clay) or dry areas (though they can tolerate daily watering with good drainage or in containers). Easy & care, by June their multi-branching stems bear lots of thistle-like flowers all the way to September.
New thread again already:
