second year the leaves turn brown and curl up..anyone know what could be causing this? i am in southwest Michigan. the tree is about 8 years old..
I believe this is a Japanese Maple...the leaves look burnt
Yes, definitely a Japanese maple. As far as the crisping leaves, I'd guess either not enough water or too much sun (or possibly a combination of those). Or if you water it a lot and have poor drainage it could be too much water. Or if it's in a windy spot, too much wind could do that. Excess sun would be my first suspect though.
