I moved to an apartment in Manhattan with a terrace. I have some fairly large containers out there with some annuals already there, some grass, 2 japanese maple trees and 1 unknown tree (I don't like the unknown tree).
I want to plant things out there so that I have something in bloom at any given time (except the dead of winter), and so that when things are not blooming they are not ruining the space. I am thinking a mixture of bubs that bloom at different times, some annuals, some perennials, a replacement for the ugly tree (it can't be more than 4 or 5 feet), maybe an evergreen.
I have NO IDEA where to begin. When do I plant trees? Now? Next Spring? I think the bulb planting is pretty easy - the websites are pretty clear about when to plant and when things will bloom. But other than that - is there some kind of guide for when to plant throughout the year in NYC in containers? If someone can point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it!
How do I get started
