Miscellaneous Shots 2011 - No. 4
Love the wires!
Have seen gross, but cool, shots of the cicadas emerging from the skeletons.
I thought you'd like the wires, ☺
- Took them just North of Pirl's neighborhood on a small country road as the sun was setting.
- don't really care for bugs myself, but every now and then an interesting shot presents itself. This am I found it attached to one of my water misters, must have shed it overnight in the 'safety' of darkness..
the bluejay shot is a keeper!!
Love the wires and the sandpipers.
Love the sandpipers...great photo!
I like the S. pipers too. :)
Thanks, always a treat when a group of sandpipers is working the beach. The trick is to be in position to take the pic well before they pass by. I've had them pass within 12 feet of me while sitting down fishing at the shore. (of course with my fishing rod in hand instead of a camera, lol)
Saw this group approach about 500 feet down the beach, so I went over to the shoreline and sat down about 50' from the surf with a telephoto. Kept the camera raised and tracked them as they approached, stopping every now and then if they noticed my movement. If I had waited until they were nearer to set-up they would have turned back, also need to keep a low profile, they're very wary.
They run so fast they sometimes end up running in mid-air! lol!
Another great shot and it looks as though the surf is snow! Love the bird with both feet off the ground.
Yes, terrific shot!
they are funny birds.. love it!!
Very nice! And yes, the surf does look like snow. How about getting down to their level?!! You should be wiping sand off your chest! ^_^
I've done that with stationary birds like seagulls at very close range, but with moving birds in a flock you need a measure of maneuverability with your arms to pan the camera. So it's not practical, your position on the ground limits you too much.
- Also since they like to get right up to the edge of the surf the angle is downward, I would have to get too close to the surf to get an unobstructed shot and the lens would get wet in seconds from the spray of the ocean.
Very nice. Nice clear night with lower humidity.
Pretty!
That is pretty
nice shot RD
Pretty!
Nice moon WC!
Very pretty moth Robin, great save too!
Thanks, all. I have no ID....think I'll see if the library has a book on moths.....
Nice!
Must be a baby...very molty feathers....I know goldfinches nest late....
love that shot WC!!
- Thanks ☺
- I suspected it was a juvie, but I wasn't sure, the feathers were different from what I've usually seen.
They do love water don't they?! I get birds coming when I backwash the pool filter, despite the yucky algae and diatomaceous earth.
the DE won't harm them will it?
Have no idea. Doubt they are drinking - just washing.
The algae wont hurt them, hopefully the DE wont hurt their eyes, but they have to deal with all that and then some if they are wild...
Maybe the DE is good for getting rid of their mites.....
maybe..
