Thanks n.a.n. on your remark. I can only imagine how delightful it's to watch them (goldfinches) work on the Coneflowers. You're correct, I have many of them camping out in the garden during winter, and they do take off in early spring.

Lovely families of birds you have, Nanny.
Nice to see the juvie House Finch, Duc. I'm starting to get the Adult Cowbirds back in the yard. I saw a male at the feeder this morning.
Chicochi, the Goldfinch, sure love those Sunflowers. I'd like to have a field full of Sunflowers, they are so pretty. Love the deer.
Margaret, :)) My Grand-falls is very amusing. Wish I had a small pocket of water somewhere in there, so the birds wouldn't work so hard for their bath.
Sorry to hear of the plight of the Black Cockatoos, 10 years goes by to fast. Hope something can be done to soon, to raise their numbers up.
Love the fact, that your close to the lake Lily, for the water fowls you see and share.
A Ring-billed Gull at the park the other day.
Tree swallows in flight about 10 minutes ago. About 50 feet above me. They were frolicking for about 5 minutes and I was able to get 30 or more good shots. After a while I started waiting until they came close together. This was one of the closer ones.
Make that BARN swallows (thanks Resin)

This guy was telling everyone else that this was his yard and they better leave! It was so hot today I put another small birdbath/drinking fountain for our feathered friends, it was sure a surprise when I saw a Groundhog peek around the corner of the house, I don't know who was the most surprised him or me, I raised the camera to get a shot, he scrammed pretty fast.
Great shots everyone!
Dave, Good catch on the Swallows! They are difficult to get in flight.
Cute ones nanny!
The seed is sunflower chips in the caged feeder. Actually looks like whole kernels.
Great shots everyone!!
Hummingbirds I'm not having much luck with this year, but goldfinches I have a gazillion of all year. And Lord help me, they're having their babies now; that nyjer stuff sure is expensive!
Lovely pics. Red, Carol I'm so happy to learn goldfinches nest in Md. hopefully they'll find plenty of insects in the wild to sustain.
As usual I am enjoying the pictures.
I like our Mourning Doves too. I just hope the Eurasian Collareds stay away. I heard they are pretty aggressive about nesting territory. They've put a dent in some MD populations. We had one pass through this spring. I think it found its way to the co-op where there is ready grain for them.
That Mother Green Heron is something else. LOL
"Some sort of woodpecker" my husband says.
When I looked at the picture I saw a White-breasted nuthatch. :) I hope it doesn't sound like I'm picking on him. He's in the early stages of learning as the rest of the family. We just witnessed these so much more than he as he works during the day.
We tried to go birding for our anniversary yesterday. We found someone to watch the children as a grand treat. I don't remember the last time we didn't take our children on our anniversary outing. The heat was keeping the birds in the shade so we didn't see a whole lot, but we enjoyed our leisurely time. We also hit Barnes &Noble (bought a couple bird books), Lowe's (had to replace the tube feeder that crashed to the ground in a storm), PetSmart (BIG block of suet and cage to fit it in) and Olive Garden. (Umm, I had chicken alfredo. Hey, that's bird related. :)
