Sounds like you had a nice day Chilly!

Poor Red-bellied Woodpecker juvie.....looking for the suet feeders that I brought in because of raccoons in the back yard this morning! lol

Wild Rose, how terrific all those shots. I love the GH chicks, but I just couldn't get over the frantic/wild look on that of the parent GH. And, I couldn't stop laughing on your 'flashing' boy GBH. lol Congrats on your anniversary, CB. Sweet, sweet RBWP Nan. Yes, looks as if she's missing something lol.

Mount Pleasant Mills, PA(Zone 5a)

Great shots all. Wild Rose, love that Flasher!!

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

I have not had a lot of photos lately but still seem to be having a hard time keeping up with posting them! lol
Was sitting out in the yard one day last week and got these few shots.

A Sandwich Tern... female, I think.

Royal Tern - note the all-yellow bill. Sandwich has a black bill with a yellow tip.

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7a)

Thanks Resin... I shall correct!

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7a)

So is this one also a Royal? It has a reddish beak. Same day and location. Female above and male here perhaps?

Thanks!

Sounds like GG got a bee in her bonnet...or something!

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

GG ->> BB (bee in bonnet), hehehehehe.

I was so excited to spot this Great Egret with a big stick. This is a second time I spotted the bird with such behavior. Isn't it a little bit late in the season for them to build nest?

Sorry, but it's bad news - that's a broken leg hanging, not a stick. They carry sticks in their beak.

At least it's surviving, if you've seen it over a while. How long before was the previous occasion?

Resin

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Ooooh I did have a little uneasiness with that thought. It was within a week that I've seen it with that broken leg.

Northumberland, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

'Fraid it probably means it's been shot. Likely culprit would be someone who owns fishing rights where the bird has been fishing.

WR love your mad Mama shot, and those chicks are something else. Great shots!!!
Great photos everyone.

All done, going back for seconds.

Sorry to hear the bad report of your Egret, Lily. Hopefully it will be able to survive it's injury. I have a Song Sparrow here that's missing a leg, and it's doing really well.

I found the Bobolink in the same field as last year. Here's a male with a meal for the young.

The Kingbird was kind enough to stay a while, for a few shots.

Geez, I hate to hear that Resin. Thanks burn for your comforting thought. I hope the egret will recover and excel. Love those shots of the Swallows Burn. The bobolink and Kingbird are neat!

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Wow....that is such sad new about the egret. I kind of thought that when I looked at the photo but wasn't positive.

Burn...nice catch of the bobolink!

Sucks about the egret. I hate maniacs with guns.

Interesting activity here today. These blue jays showed up to steal coconut fiber from the hanging baskets. Of course they couldn't be bothered to use what I already had for them in the nest material basket. Perhaps it was because this basket also offered some tasty begonias!

First there was one, then there were two, then three adults. I thought that odd. And then, tagging along was a Juvie.

Nice capture. Jays always seem to hang around in large groups.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

I'm with you Mrs. Ed, loving nature has to start from the hearts. I can't imagine people would shoot down a living creature just for the fun of it. I'd love to see Jays in flock. Still haven't had success with luring them to the feeder here. Nan, Gray Catbird to the feeder! Wow, they're very secretive around here I can only find them in low shrubs and such.

Sadly, some people do; but in this case, I'd think more likely someone who thinks they have a right to destroy anything that does even the slightest harm to their financial interests [in this case, fishing revenues]. That's why herons, cormorants, mergansers, ospreys, etc., are still shot illegally fairly frequently in Britain.
