Heard about that. That's a few blocks from where I worked. Before the 80's, they constantly dumped raw sewage into the Hudson from that point.
Coffee Break #63
This was in the news .....such a sad freak accident.

Geeze!
don't want to read bad stuff .. skipping that one today
Dumbest air conditioning design of all time in my house. The entire first floor - over 1500 sq ft - fed by one register/vent, or whatever it's called. Blows down right on the middle of the kitchen. Stand there and you freeze. A ten degree or more difference between there and the LR is not uncommon. The ceiling fan in the LR helps but it is really ridiculous.
oh that's terrible.. would make me nuts
it's like that at my work place. some places in the plant are ok and others you freeze.
same with my office but only about 5 degree difference within 10 ft away, I have to wear a sweater every day
I'm not a fan of a/c, but tonight it's needed.....my units are on the wall...they are controlled by remotes...the one in the family room is larger than the bedroom ones, but they cool the whole upstairs......
It's very annoying. Kind of the exact opposite from the winter, where the pellet stove is in the LR.
I have to wear fleece when it gets this hot or go outside to warm up. ;( DH hates the heat...we have 3 air conditioners in a 9 room house!!!
Hee hee!
My son Josh wears a hoody in the livingroom and I wear a fleece jacket. It's nuts!
We opted to get a commercial Central Air system and there are vents in all rooms except the bathrooms - the kitchen and living room have two vents. It's always coolest in the living room. We keep it at 78 in daytime and that's fine with me.
In the second floor zone - supply and return in every room. Even the bathroom has a vent!
and it should!!!... my central air was added on to the house after it was built.. pipe runs from the attic down the closet in the spare room and then to all over.. and the unit is way too big.. cools off the house in no time
Rather have it oversized than under!
yes Michele's is like that.. just runs and runs.. never gets a break
We have a window air conditioner in a 'family' room behind the garage. Ususally cools down here at night, but hot tonight. I came up from watchin news & reading & am hot & sweaty. No wrist braces tonight, I wouldn't be able to stand them.
2 through the wall a/c's, a big one in the living room and a mini big one in the bedroom. Put them both on and everything in between gets frozen, I keep mine at 77°.
Victor, how old is your house? I can't understand how they even got a CO when they built??? to only have one vent for an entire floor, is completely nuts.
When we moved in here noticed our kitchen didn't have a vent, when they remodelled they put the free standing pantry in front of it and didn't seal it off, hubby had to pull the pantry off the wall and run new duct/vent over the top.
The water in my house is all screwed up in my opinion. Right now the garden sprinklers are on, so I cant take a shower. If I am in the kitchen it takes a long time for the hot water to get there. The water heater is only 25 feet away. It leaves the tank and goes all the way down to the other end of the house to the master bathroom then comes back to the kitchen.
Dont do dishes while someone is taking a shower in either bathroom. Turn the hot on and the shower will go cold and vice versa. Who ever designed this mess should be hosed.
we can squeeze a shower in with the sprinklers on.. but the pressure is low.. not worth trying
Have AC units in LR and BR, fans in the rest of the house. Keep the doors closed and the shades pulled. Generallly keeps the house 10 degrees cooler than outside. Nights generally cool enough to turn the AC's off but not last night!!!
Jen, the a/c is not original. Was installed in the 80's when they did a major reno - when they created the great room. House is '64.
Was that the former owners who did the reno???
Yes. And now that I think of it, I believe the a/c was done after the reno - in the early 90's when the mother developed COPD. She lived on the ground floor since she could no longer climb the stairs. Obviously was a heavy smoker.
I really can't believe they got away with only 1 vent...we have to submit plans and everything to the city when doing renos or else they won't give you a permit
My friends that live on the other side of town couldn't get a co till they put a vent in the walk in closet in the master bdrm!!!! the closet is 18X15
Wow!
Well I have heard that the inspectors in this town have a history of corruption.
So they prob knew someone to get away with it or they didn't even get a permit
Possibly.
Wow - as many as 30 feared dead at the attack at the Norwegian youth camp, in addition to the Oslo bomb blast victims.
Heard it on the radio, very unfortunate.
I always think of the Scandinavian countries as peaceful places.
Very sad.
Very tragic.....
No place is immune.
Not any more.....
Now saying at least 80, just at the youth camp. Horrific. How does one open fire on innocent kids? Monster.
Desensitization & dehumanization..
And a fair amount of some sort of brainwashing.
