Bought 1 gal containers this spring. Growing well, 6-8 ft vines now.
Soil here is sandy, (don't know my "zone" but am 50 mi N of Houston) Feed everything miracle grow time release pellets. HS seems to need more water than jasmine.
How long till honeysuckle, jasmine flower?
You may need to be a little patient with them their first season in the ground--they will need some time to get settled in and get their roots going really well before they bloom. So it's a little hard to say when they'll start to bloom since they won't be on a normal blooming schedule their first year, and if/when they do bloom it might not be quite as good of a show as you'll get in future years.
I figured it may be til next year. Last house I lived in had well established jasmine. What heavenly aroma when it put those flowers out. Geez, sitting in the patio area smelled like perfume.
The Honeysuckle is a woodland plant therefore likes more shade around the roots as it would normally be clambering into the tree tops or over walls etc, the Jasmine cane take a little less shade but still wont want to be growing in the blazing sun without extra mulch / organic matter as will the Honeysuckle, both are known as twiners as the way they grow neither can support or cling itself without help from ties or plant clips to help them get growing up and away.
As to how long before they flower, all depends on how large the plants are, how much light (not necessarily sun) they get and how good the soil is at the start, once they get going they will take care of them-self till they need cut back, IF the honeysuckle is perfumed, the best time to enjoy the smell is early evening, it is wonderful.
Good luck, WeeNel.
This picture was taken when the plant was 5 years old. I'd started it from one small 6" clipping!
Once the first flush of bloom is over with honeysuckle, I either deadhead the smaller plants, or with something this size, ran the clippers over it, and that gave me a second flush of bloom again later.
