Wild Area Weeds

Lannon, WI

Not sure if this is right place for this but I want to convert a sloped area where we had several trees removed but some still remain into a manageable woodland garden area - part shade but filtered sunlight. To begin I need to get rid of the weeds and kudzu type vines. What product might you recommend and how long before I could transplant from my larger perennial gardens into this area. Live in Wisconsin - zone 5 to 5a. Area is probably about 50-60' long and 10-15' wide. Photo enclosed. Thanks much.

Roundup would work, just be careful to shield anything you want to keep. Roundup does not remain in the soil, so you could plant as soon as the weeds are gone.

Patsy, this was the beginning of my woodland garden in late August 2009. I had a LOT of poison ivy and other vines there at first. I sprayed a brush killer, then removed as much as possible by hand.

This is the view while standing between the pine trees in the first picture on June 3rd 2010!! Less than a year.

It took more than brush killer to create that transformation! Beautiful!

Yeah maybe a rock or two! We were on the local garden tour last year and everybody kept asking how many YEARS it took to create this. I always laughed at their looks when I told them less than a year. I love doing it though. I've already added more beds on the right including an Asian style area.

I have a large piece of woods that I would love to do this with but every time I plant something outside our fenced area the deer get it.
