Variegated Mahoe:
Hot July Blooms
Plants are looking great peony!
Drthor...that sounds like the perfect way to do it with the clay soil. The wind has really played a devil on my watering also. DH and I got up one morning this weekend and went out and tested areas where my plants are not doing well at all. We put in some stand pipes and changed out some sprinkler nozzles, just anything to help. The grass is doing great, but the beds are suffering where the plants are tall and blocking water.
We had a 3 min sprinkle this morning; I wouldn't call it rain, just enough to dirty windshields.
I water 2x /week for 5 -10 min x 2 on each zone sine the heat started. Just hand watering those new clearance babies daily. I changed the height of some heads this w/e, ofcourse having to make 2 trips to Lowes( can you ever get the right sizes in one trip?) I think the 3 minute rule sounds like a good idea.
Desert Willow
Daylilies and Litryum
Just lovely Anna and drthor! Since you too have great blooming plants and water multiple waves, etc. I shared it with Herman and he has agreed to try it!!
We watered 5 min on 9 zones (3 times) last night. Seems to have worked better than 15 min straight. Thanks for sharing your techniques. Now if I can get him to do that at least 3 times a week.
Oh, I forgot to ID the flame acanthus....love that plant, and yes the hummers love it.
DH and I just got inside from doing the lawn and trimming back some things. Boy is it hot already. Got to work at my volunteer job tonight so that is it for me outside today. Have fun and stay cool guys.
rooguchi is gorgeous! I heard it was prone to mildew, but obviously not for you..or not in Texas this time of year! Love your combos too. I have no luck with white phlox...I had "David" but it died and then I bought a new hybrid about 2 months ago and I guess the west sun sucked the life out of it. 8(
Tall upright Hibiscus with over 12 inch blooms ... I don't know the type because it was a gift. My brother bought it from QVC a couple of years back along with one with white blooms and a maroon center and one with pink blooms and a maroon center. It is not a "Luna Series". The bloom edges are a bit ruffled evn in the morning due to the heat. My red blooming dwarf hibiscus is in the background.
Gorgeous blooms, Hazel!
Thanks, Stephanie.
My front yard - not so bad considering this crazy heat!
The POTATO VINE came from last year ... I didn't know that Potato Vine is a PERENNIAL here !
I couldn't believe that it survived the Superbowl freeze.
I found a lot of little baby plants on the side of the house where they were planted last year. I just keep moving them to the front garden.
The one you see in the picture are all rescued from last year.
So this year after the first freeze I will not pull it put .. I will just trimmed down ... yeeeaaahhh
That is really neat Cheryl, and yes it is native to Texas.
