Harvesting Broccoli

Greenwood, IN

This is my first time growing broccoli and I am trying to figure out if I should harvest it or not.

Now is the time. The head is starting to seperate and I think I can see the faint yellow of a blossom preparing to open. Quality drops off fast when the blossoms start to open.

I agree with Farmerdill. The head should of been harvested about a week ago when it was tighter. It's better to err on being early than late. As we all know gardening is always is a learning experience.

Thank you both very much! I will cut it tomorrow morning. I was wondering if I could expect another crop from this plant or should start a new one? any thoughts?

Depending on Variety and soil temps, broccoli will send out several cuttings of side shoots after the main head is harvested.

Of course. quality will be way down, but perfectly edible. Whether they will be palatable to you? You will not know till you try.
