Hi Clemsweenet. Can you post a picture? It sounds like a cool possible addition to the garden.

A photo would really help.

This is one old sink that it now a mini herb garden so I can get what I need even if it's raining out. It's about 5' from the garage.

You can use it for a container bog garden, turn it into a fountain, water garden, fairy garden....

Ayrshire Scotland, United Kingdom

Depending on the size and how deep the sink is, there are several uses but the most favoured by myself is to brush natural yogurt onto the outside, this helps green alga to grow and helps to age the stone to look like it has been sitting outside for many years,
the NATURAL yogurt causes no germs or disease's, just don't use flavoured stuff.
Next stand the sink on several bricks to lift it off the ground, make sure the drain hole is not /wont get blocked, I use broken crock from old terracota pots to help cover the hole.
Fill the sink with a mix of 6 parts compost, 2 parts HORTICULTURAL sand and 2 parts fine grit / gravel, the gravel that you buy in the garden store for mulching pots etc, add a handful of multi purpose feed that will be slow release. Mix all this well and fill the sink to about 1 or 1 and half from top of sink.
Now the best part, add a few larger stones /Pebbles, and buy a selection of low growing plants that like well drained for this show piece planter, that like say, rock garden or succulents, look for plants like :

Thyme, All the dwarf types of the species.

Dwarf conifers like Junipers, Pygmy Spruce, dwarf Rhododendron dwarf Azalea etc,

flowering plants can be : Companula X Carpitatia, Gypsophila X fratensis, Dwarf Sedums.

Gentians, Veronica, Yellow Alyssum X saxatile, small yellow Viola's.
Arrabis, Alpine Phlox, Alpine Dianthus.

These are just a few ideas of plants to suit a Scree Bed, things that like stones, dryish soil and give colour also.

the named plants I give come in different colours of flowers depending on what you want visually, but importantly, top dress AFTER planting with small grit / gravel so that rain cant splash the soil onto the foliage / flowers as this can cause rot, remember what you are trying to do is imitate the conditions these lovely little plant grow in when in their natural habitat. Forgot to tell you to put a 2 inch layer of broken crocks in the bottom of the sink to help drainage and roots don't eventually sit in wet soil,
Hope this gives you some ideas and a new project, these sinks can be moved around for sun / shade etc depending on your choice of plants. you can grow these also along the top of a wall, waist high on blocks or on a drain cover that we all have spoiling our garden.
Good luck. WeeNel.
