it is now the end of June and there are no flowers on my crape myrtle. It still has the buds from last year and i noticed the tip of the leaves are brown. Last year it did not produce flowers until late summer and did not have that many flowers. Is there something wrong with it (disease or something). I do not think it has ever been pruned or anything until i moved into my house in 09. I have not pruned it but did fertilize it.
Hope someone can help me.

Some of my crapemyrtles have just started blooming, and some have not formed buds yet. Crapemyrtles bloom, depending on the species/ cultivar from June through to late September-early October. If your tree is planted in anything other than full sun, the blooms will be slower to appear and sparser. Also, if you are drought bound like so much of the lower south, you need to give it supplemental water.

The "buds from last year" are probably just the seed pods it made after last year's blooms but a picture would help confirm that. As themoonhowl said, the tip burn could be related to drought damage but it could also be due to the fertilizer. What did you use?
Oh, honey, you can't kill those things. You'd really have to have a brown thumb to kill them. They are generally late season bloomers. One thing you shouldn't do is cut ALL the top back or you'll have a mess on your hands. You'll have suckers everywhere on the thing (My mistake). We have three that are over 20 years old and we never fertilize, water, trim... Trimming some benefit the plant to encourage blooming but "shorten" the tree's lifespan. Although, the only thing you would shorten is the tree itself... I mean, have you ever really seen a dead crape myrtle? In Memphis, I see dead evergreens everywhere, but have yet to casually spot a browned crape myrtle. Ours even has mold on it and it lives on... Boy, will I be sad when it dies... =)
