Morning Glory Vines?

Montgomery, TX

Planted morning glory and moon flower vines this spring, growing like crazy. Mentioned this to my aunt who likes to garden and she said morning glory vines "take over everything" I am pretty new to gardening, so I don't know a lot. Most everything I planted is doing quite well though.
anybody know about this?

Yes, sadly. They do take over BUT you just may want to enjoy them this year and then pick out seedlings for the next 80 or so years.

Many people rip them out immediately and yet there's the joy of growing something that survives no matter what the weather.

It's your garden, your choice.

Yep. I just pulled mine before they flowered for fear of them engulfing our teeny mail box that I planted them around. I love them, but I just haven't found the right spot for them yet. Funny that they're packaged as annuals. LOL with no warnings on the package

Far too many plants don't carry warnings of their aggressiveness or that they are actually invasive. Shame on the industry for not being more truthful.

Many people say to "just" pull out unwanted seedlings but four hours a day of pulling cleome, cosmos, morning glory and a host of others is too much for me. I'd rather be gardening.

Yikes! They gotta go. What about the moon flower vines?

Boy, I just hate telling you bad news but it's the same story as Morning Glories. Why not ask around or on the Texas Forum. Perhaps they are just misbehaving up north?

Dang, I hate when that happens! Moved out to the country last year, and planted big veggie garden & flower beds everywhere this spring. Just looked at seed packs and got stuff that looked pretty.

Got Round Up? You can always spray the spare seedlings in years to come. It's having your cake and eating it, too.

Morning glories are gorgeous. I plant them in hanging containers every year and have never had an invasion. This year though I put them along a trellis at the back of an annual bed that I hope will become self seeding. I'm not unhappy about it at all - I love these flowers.

i planted a huge amount of sunflowers (for me) and thought it would be pretty to have Morning glories climbing up them well, they are pretty, but they choked the life out of my sunflowers. never again will i mix morning glories and anything. they need their own space. i no doubt overdid the morning glory seeds as i usually only get about 50% germination of anything i plant cause i usually read directions after i am done. so i planted more than one seed at the base of the sunflowers, wrong again, got almost 90 % on the morning glories. gotta love them for their beauty but live and learn about where to plant them.

We have wild morning glory here, it's called 'choke weed'....
Not as big flowers, but just as bad about choking. It grows on the side of the house where the hose is, and it actually kinks the hose! Ugh

these have lovely large flowers, pink, blue, a reddish color, just didnt realize how strong they were. the ones i planted along an ugly fence, that i wanted to grow huge and cover everything, got eaten by rabbits. i thought because they were poisonous the rabbits wouldnt eat them. one more learning experience

We have a fence of morning glories and moon flowers that block the neighbor's view of the patio. The morning glories do reseed. Never had a moon flower reseed. We also have woodchucks who like to eat the morning glories and moonflowers. They generally eat what's growing in the grass and then climb on top of the fence and mow the top. They do a good job of keeping the morning glories in check.

Since the bunnies are eating them maybe you won't have a problem with them reseeding all over? :)
someone tried to convince me not to plant ditch lilies because they're aggressive, but i won't hear of it, i may regret it later but i like them and w
i want them...for now. Lol so plant them if you like them and
enjoy them

i love them ! so i will just be a bit more selective about where i plant them. they will hopefully reseed where they are so i will just plant the sunflowers somewhere else next year.
