Propagating fan flowers

Copperas Cove, TX(Zone 8a)

I've taken some cuttings from the fan flowers that we brought back from Illinois to Texas this past spring. I made a mixture of peat moss and pearlite as the directions I read said, I then took some 6" cuttings and trimmed off all but the top few leafs, dipped the cuttings in root power and after making holes with a pencil I put them in some 4" clay pots. I then wrapped them in plastic bags as the directions I read said to and made sure the mixture stayed damp. This was about two weeks ago. I've been checking the mixture every few days to make sure it was damp and adding a bit of water if it felt dry. Yesterday I noticed a lot of fuzzy mold growing on the leaves, what do I do now? I'm not sure if they've rooted yet but I guess it's possible. Any advice would be appreciated.

Mold usually indicates too much water--I'd try opening up the plastic bags a bit to allow them to breathe a little bit, and/or water a bit less often. I'm not sure how quickly these root, but regardless of whether they've rooted or not, too much moisture is not good for them.

Thanks, I'll open them up tonight and let dry out for a day or so. I probably did put a bit too much water in the last time I did it.

You don't necessarily need to keep the bag open a super long time (unless things are really wet). I would just open it up for a little bit a couple times a day to let things breathe a bit. If you keep it open all the time then you don't get the benefit of a little humidity
