dancing thread- parasite or baby?

Albany, NY(Zone 5a)

These have been in my garden lately. Seen about four of them so far the past few days. Hubby thinks they're worms like dogs can get, which freaks me right out. And I think they're baby snakes, which scares him. What do you guys think?
