paeony problem

Newmarket Ontario, Canada

Hi all you smart people out there:

I have three perfectly good paeony plants but one which comes up year after year with a single stalk which duly produces 1 flower.

How can I get the root of this plant to produce more than one "eye"?

thanks for your help

I would wait until fall and then lift the plant up until it's sitting just under the surface of the soil and give a good feeding. Peonies LOVE to bake in the sun and, if buried too deeply, will not perform. I had the same problem with mine until I did that. They now produce clusters of beautiful flowers.

Hi, Flowers! Haven't 'seen' you in awhile. LOL

I, too, would love to see pics of the one that did flower.

Hi Pupil, as you live in Canada, I would recommend you lay a mulch over your Peony around the planting / root area for winter protection, My sister-in-law who also lives North Ontario grows her peony's in the borders close to the house walls for extra protection because these plants are planted just under the top soil as said before to have the tuber baked in the sun, they are hungry feeders and each year give them a feed of either animal manure, chicken pellets from the store or a multi purpose feed as directed on the packet. hope this also helps you out. Good luck. WeeNel.
