Cypress Vine Uprooted

Ledgewood, NJ

I started my Cypress vines from seeds this year, and planted them in a window box with a lattice for climbing. My neighbor was playing with a ball and knocked into the lattice which uprooted my vines. They wilted within a few hours, i rerooted the plants, but they are still wilted. Will they survive this trauma or should i give up and retry from scratch.

Had they bloomed yet? I grew cypress vines from seed several years ago--I let them climb up a large light pole in my back yard. After they bloomed volunteers started popping up all over my yard so I pulled out the original vines. Five years later I'm still pulling volunteers out of a corner of my vegetable garden every year. I also dug up several of the volunteers and mailed them to a friend and she said they made it through the mail in great shape. I think if you keep them in the shade for a while and keep them just moist, not soaked with water, at least some of them will probably revive and begin growing again--they seem to be very hardy.

I agree, I wouldn't give up on them. Just remember since their roots suffered some trauma, it'll be like you just transplanted them so you'll need to water more frequently, protect them from hot sun if you can, etc until they can get their roots going again.
