Hi,
I live in Hemet, CA, zone 9b. The soil here is kinda poor. I'd like to plant a fast growing deciduous tree on the south side of my house, for shade in the summer. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!
Can someone help me pick a tree?
Fruitless Mulberry trees grow quite fast, especially once established.
They get big, and throw lots of shade.
The Texas Umbrella trees do, too . . . BUT, they have brittle wood, so I don't suggest planting it near a house. (Also, their seeds are many & poisonous.)
Brazilian Pepper trees probably grow good in 9b, but come up like weeds from their seed (as do Texas Umbrellas). Pruned as a tree they are very pretty, though.
I don't think any of these three are very picky about the soil they grow in, as long as it has reasonably good drainage.

Thanks very much! I'd forgotten about this post, was a nice surprise to get a good reply :)
You're Welcome---I forgot about it, too!
There are probably others, but, I am personally familiar with those I mentioned.
