dzzy,
Yes Florida Hill is in Debary. I was thinking of bidding on a plant on Ebay from them last year but they wouldn't let me do local pickup and I was darned if I was paying $6.99 shipping for a plant that was 20 minutes away to pick up.
Tropical Garden #103
Hello everyone,
Great pictures....rita, LOVE that ginger, do you know the name?
Thank you everyone for thinking of me....we thought the fires had pretty much been put out, but they have flared back up again. We were at the coast yesterday and this morning, but the smoke and ash was so bad (1 hour away) we just came back home. Right at the moment it is clear here. On the way home, saw one of the billowing plumes of smoke from one of the fires. The weatherman is predicting 60-70% chance of rain for the next 3 days and then it goes down to 30-40%. So at some point we should get some more rain.
Yes, I saw their eBay auction, then I went directly to their website. That $6.99 shipping is good for up to 4 plants, which I thought is pretty good. (for me, at this distance) Maybe you wouldn't want to drive down to the nursery and buy the plant - too dangerous! Can't ever buy just one plant, right?? Looks like they have some great stuff.
I have the little Polly in a new pot, in orchid mix, and then I sunk it - pot and all - into the shade border along the walkway. So, if it gets cold this winter I can easily move it in next to the house for protection. We'll see how it does!
Went to the nursery for potting soil and orchid mix today and (naturally) this pretty caladium followed me home . . . might be similar to Ardesia's, it does have a slight blue-ish cast to the leaves when you look at them sideways.
That's it! Now what is it????
GA girl, I can't help but think of you all day, everytime the darn smoke rolls around. Thankfully we do not get the ash this far away.
edited to add, turns out Lari Ann did know the caladium in question.

Oh, those are beautiful! Do you have any viable Lotus seeds to trade? Dmail me if you do and I'll see if I can find something to trade for them.
Remind me next winter and I will send you a tuber, they bloom the first year.
Oh, THANK YOU! I will most likely forget - I can't remember what happened yesterday - but I will try!
Just wait until you get to be my age, LOL.
Hello Gardeners!!
Hopefully, by now, the drought and those awful fires are all in the past and we can get back to some serious gardening.
dyzzy, I am loving all your gingers and Cannas! Affirmative on the Swamp hibiscus, they make excellent bog plants as well.
Sorry I have no help for you concerning your A. Polly, hopefully someone else will be able to advise you.
New Variegated Tapioca plant.
Rachel, got a little cat toy by that Anthurium T.???
I'm sitting here staring at the Radar...willing it to jig to the East...just a tad !!!
Same here, mj - there are little pop-up showers all around us, but we haven't had a drop!
Tomorrow, tomorrow! It might rain tomorrow! It's always a day away.
Love those lotus, Ardesia! Are they in tubs? My little 'Baby Doll' has one tiny bud but I think it's not getting enough sun to really crank up the blooming. Next year I might keep it in a tub so I can move it around for more sun, to make it bloom better. I love the leaves, the way the water rolls around on them like mercury.
Rita, those white flowers look like something that would have a lovely fragrance, yes? What are they?
no rain here, I never thought (after a whole month up north during april of non stop rain) I would so want to see rain....LOL
It looked real good today on my way home but it stayed east of 301.
Jan
Yes, the lotus are in tubs and they do like sun and lots of fertilizer in warm climates like ours.
Mjs, glad to know I am not the only one who stares at the radar; wishing!
May I have your attention please....! Does anyone know where I can get a Cyrtosperma Merkusii?
Thanks, Drew
Good morning!
mjsponies, I am so sorry, I thought that everyone received a little rain. Perhaps you should have washed your car or watered the lawn since the rain dances did not work for you. Hopefully today will be your rain day!!!
Your Hoyas are lovely!! Really nice pictures. Did you see the grasshopper on your Abutilion?
homer1958, Brian Williams will be able to help in locating the Cyrtosperma Merkusii.
dyzzy, those areWhitfieldia elongata, White Candles, no fragrance that I can detect. They light up the garden whenever the sun shines on them.

It is time to start a new thread. Anyone with a nice Tropical plant picture is welcome to start one
Weather woes - yes, it's even worse getting just a spritz of rain than none at all! I'm sitting here watching a nice little storm cruise by to the north of us. Not only can I see it on the radar, about a mile away, I can SEE it out the window right by my desk! Arrgghh! Maybe it will get to you, Jan. It's headed that way.
I am looking at my shady walkway now in a whole new light - since Rita spotted the tree philos out there. We've been here 4 years, and I've hardly looked at that area since it really takes care of itself nicely. But . . . that fence along there has a shelf along the top, looks like it's made for growing orchids! And here I've been resisting all those gorgeous phaels for months because I thought I had nowhere to put them! A whole new garden in the offing!
Resisting the temptation to grow orchids and broms on the oak tree branches, though. Some fool fastened broms in the crutches of the oaks with great big nails, and the bark on the trees is just now healing up from the damage.
Thanks Rita!
