aquatic plant invading our small pond

Burlington, WI

A few years ago we brought a plant home from the Devil's Lake area which our friends called an indain puzzle. My kids took it down to the pond and threw it down and now it is everywhere around the pond. Does anyone know what it is really called and how to get rid of it?

Hi teachmom. Can you post a picture of the plant? Haven't yet found anything by that common name. Does the plant flower?
. Here is a link that may be of use to you, it is a listing of plants found in your area.

I don't know this local name either, but do know that there are some pond plants that are very invasive, so much so that here in UK, we are not allowed to discard them into ponds, parks or give them away to friends, when you pull this out from your own pond, leave it laying on the side of the pond for a few hours / a day to let any pond insects ,fish find their way back to the pond, don't dump the plants in your compost bins or rubbish bins that are collected by local bin men, it would be better IF you could burn it and this way it wont do harm to anyone else, they eventually choke the ponds of oxygen and nothing in the pond can live without breathing. Good luck, send a picture for us to help further, WeeNel.

My grandma used to call snake grass Indian puzzle. But a friend told me that scouring rush is actually Indian puzzle. http://www.illinoiswildflowers.info/grasses/plants/scouring_rush.htm
