Planting vegetables over tulip bed

Alexandria, VA

I have 300 tulip bulbs in the ground and would like to plant tomatoes, cucumbers and squash over them. Is this okay to do or would the bulbs have some impact on the vegetable plants/soil that would make the food not good for eating?

Thanks.

I would lift and store the Tulip bulbs as the vegetables need more fertile soil, you will also need to turn over the soil to aerate it, add fertilizers or manure / compost, so I would think you would do more harm to the Tulip bulbs that good. the other thing to consider is that should you grow veg that comes from bulbs, like onions etc, then they might get mixed up with the Tulip bulbs which are poisonous if eaten. Tulip bulbs are not normally deep in the soil so they wont be difficult to dig up, once you do,keep the greenery attached and tie them into bunches and hang up to let the foliage dry, once the greenery is yellow or pale, you should be able to gently tug the bulb away, store the bulbs in either boxes of sand or do as I do, place them in a pair of my old panty hose and hang them up in a cool dark area till autumn when it's time to plant them out again.
Hope this helps you out and some things to consider. good luck WeeNel.
