We recently bought a kwazan cherry blossom tree and planted it in our front yard. My question is it said we have to keep it adequately watered until it establishes itself...... What does establishing itself mean in the gardening world and how long does that usually take?
kwazan Cherry Tree question
If you just planted this tree then this summer it is critical that you keep it adequately watered. Mulching deeply would be the most valuable thing you could do. Perhaps if you have a lawn to mow and you collect the clippings you could put those around the tree. Don't pile them up against the trunk, though. Watering isn't just a quick sprinkle. Stick you finger in the soil. It should feel moist a couple inches down. Getting the mulch on while the soil is still moist from the winter rains will be your most important task. A tree may take a year to establish itself. It all depends on whether or not it is planted where conditions favor its vigor.
