This is not a mystery plant,, but a mystery,,, The poppy on the right is one year old, the one on the left I just bought. They both had buds on them and were looking really healthy, but after a weekend of 8" of rain and then two days of 94 degrees this is what they look like. What happened??? Did they drown? Any help would really be appreciated. Thanks!
Help!! What happened???
More like steamed. Also if they were not sitting in direct sun when you bought them, they should be introduced gradually and watered each day. Transplanting on a cloudy day is good for plants but if they aren't used to the sun, the stress will kill them.
The soil 'might' be holding onto the water too much for too long, (maybe they would prefer sandy soil, not clay soil), ...
And I'm not sure, but, don't Poppies like cooler weather like in autumn? I'm really not sure.

Your soil looks pretty wet--that alone could probably have killed them, but a few days of 94 degrees while they're sitting there with wet feet certainly wouldn't have helped them (they do prefer cooler temperatures and good drainage). I doubt if it's sudden exposure to the sun or anything to do with transplanting since your plant that's been there for a year looks exactly like the newer one does.
