What's Happening in your Garden Today June 2011

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Gita, I have the same Hibiscus I picked it up at work the other day and another one, too. The second one is down right gaudy I will get a pic of it as soon as a have a good bloom to take a pic of.
Ric and Josh have finished the GH floor. They took the forms off this morning and filled the center section with stone and bricked it. Looks great.

Awwwww.....

Two such good-looking Guys hard at work!!!!!

Lucky YOU!!!!

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Yay Josh and Ric !

Went to a local horse place and scraped out a run in shed- a pickup load of very old dry (dusty! ) manure. yay! I can give a good sprinkle to all my beds, I could use ten more loads.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Sally dump some in a bucket with water and make manure tea for your pots, too. Yea, Josh put in a good bit of time at our house this week. Makes it a lot easier on Ric. We really needed to do this before he gets called back to work which should be next week.

Here are my two new Hibiscus. First one Painted Lady Hibiscus Think this is the same one Gita has.

Holly--

Actually--in the pot of Hibiscus I bought--there seems to be pink, as well as red
ones. Never know when someone is planting cuttings.....

The shape and the form looks like mine.....
So far--it hasn't gotten the "OOOMPH" going yet. May be too hot?
If planted in the ground--they do much better. Cooler temps for the roots.

Mine is kind of a pot-in-a-pot....with a space between the pots...
Just the way they fit....

Mu Kopper King Hibiscus is growing by leaps and bounds.
I can see the cluster of bloom buds forming....This one definitely is the
"STAR" of my whole garden.

Look how big it is already!

Holly, are those tropical hibiscus? Will you bring them in to overwinter?

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Yes Tropical, I will bring them in along with the other Tropicals I just can't seem to stop acquiring. LOL
Love that Rainbow Candy. We have those at work and I have been waiting to see if any of them end up on the clearance rack.

Hi guys, I've been enjoying all your pics and thinking of you all. I'll try and post some too asap. We have a lot blooming now. Lilies from Ruby and John are blooming. A lovely bright green thyme from Critter is growing great. And one of the black pussy willows from I think Holly and Ric's neighbor??? is growing great too!

Gita, I love the purple oxalis, ours is also blooming away! And one of your plants (fancy begonia w/spotted leaves) is a happy camper. I still have it inside, maybe I'll move it out for some fresh air lol.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

wind---Definitely move the "Angel Wing Begonia" outside!

I keep mine in bright shade all summer., after having cut it back to about 4" from
the soil level. Root the tops and get rid of the "cane" middles....

I have kept mine going this way for abour 25 years.

It can grow big and full and beautiful. it is NOT just a houseplant!

The outside air does wonders for all plants....

Wow Gita, yours is so full. I should have cut all my canes but didn't. It is blooming well but not "full."

Mount Laurel, NJ(Zone 7a)

wow! Gita, ours does have a cane growing now...I'll cut it off and put it outside. Hi Sally =)

Just beautiful, what is the flower in the first pic?

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Three gorgeous pics- Hi Diana ! (wave)

Odenton, MD(Zone 7b)

I have had 1 bloom on my double purple datura from Sally, unfortunately it bloomed on Sunday when I had to be at work from 6 am to 6 pm and it had closed by the time I got home. Have quite a few more buds coming. My hydrangea from Ladygardener is looking very pretty this year, I am enjoying my little backyard.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

My double purple isn't even close to blooming it looks good but not even close.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Sally told me she started her Datura seeds in beg. of January.!!!!

They CAN take a long time to germinate--and her beautiful plants showed it.

Making note to myself......Start earlier!!! Gita

Me thinks my August Lily Hosta needs dividing! It is sprawling all over
my small sidewalk to the patio. Can hardly walk on it....

Gonna be some digging going on in fall!

For those that are not familiar with this plant--here are the very
fragrant blooms it produces..in August--DAH!

I picked up an already started plant at one of the swaps. Not sure who gave it to me now.

Mount Laurel, NJ(Zone 7a)

Gita, I love that fragrant hosta

HollyAnn, I'm proud to say that the first pic is Lauren's Grape poppy!!! It took me forever to get poppies of any kind started. The birds always ate the seeds and I guess my sowing timing was always off. At one point, I even tried tossing seeds out just before a snow storm, but it didn't work.

These were sown indoors. The seeds came from a DG swap ^_^ The poppies are self sowing now too, with no problem...go figure. Bunnies decided to eat some of the buds this year. I'm glad we had enough to go around!

this pic is a little better...blooms from July 9th

I was thinking it was a Poppy. At least you got your Poppy seeds sown. I have several varieties that I haven't gotten started. Well maybe next year.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Wind---

I LOVE that purple color!!!!
It is just like the Purple Oxalis.....which I mix into all my planters and W-Boxes....

Thanks to (???) at Terri's Swap. I think it was Sally....NOT SallyG.
I have shared that already with a lot of people.....

I love the color too. We have another gorgeous dark purple bloom on a lily from Ruby and John. I'll try and get a picture later today. And Gita, you'll be happy to know that I moved your baby outside today and trimmed the cane =) I put the cane cutting in water to root.

...this is our newest loveable kitty, Lucky Lucia, a feral cat rescue from South Jersey farmland

a few blooms of the morning...I couldn't find the ID for this lily, it's beautiful, tall and fragrant with pinkish veining on the back. The white blooms are Salvia sclarea ‘turkestanica alba’ also called Vatican sage

Rose of Sharon

This has been in its location for several years now and is finally getting established and spreading nicely. We have it growing next to a yellow buddleia that I nearly killed by giving it too hard a pruning too late in the spring!!!

I guess I am more used to seeing them in pinks and lavenders....

They are always developing new things, though.

The one I bought on clearance at Lowes a year ago is called "Lavender Chiffon".
It is still in a pot--as it was a gift to a friend who lives in W.VA.

Haven't heard from her.....Hope she is OK....

Here is the tag. She is about to bloom soon....
