Tropical Garden #102

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

We once had a Golden Retriever that kept our running bamboo in check. He loved bamboo shoots. True story!

LOL, ardesia! I'm adventurous and will eat pretty much anything. I tried cooking a couple of shoots from this bamboo, and it was so bitter! I boiled it and boiled it - wasn't worth the trouble. I suppose if we were starving after a hurricane . . . amazing your retriever would eat it! Maybe the running bamboo is better tasting.

This one stays in a clump, thank goodness. New shoots pop up around it and in the middle after a heavy rain and we break off the ones we don't want.

Another turnera plant - this one's a bit more creamy.

Hello Everybody!
I would like to second Joeswife, WOW!!!!
Everyone has posted such impressive pictures, it was a pleasure viewing every one of them. You all have inspired me to get back out there and start a rain dance. That is what I need to get my garden looking as lush as those in your pictures.
GAgirl1066, I was most impressed with your Persian Shield, I really have not seen one as big and healthy as yours. Good luck with your move.

homer1958, thanks! Those are some of my favorite plants, they all seem to be thriving. A. Lutea is one that I will always have in my garden but the variegated Lutea took the prize. I have never seen that one before!

dyzz, that is a very nice clump of Peacock Ginger. I planted two pots of them last year, so far I have one leaf showing. I love the Hilo Beauty as well.
That is a very nice shot of your bamboo.

LOL, not only did Chipper keep the bamboo in check he also dug out smilax vines on command. He helped us clear 5acres of vines once. He would dig and we would pull, it was amazing. His downfall however was asparagus, he just loved it and he got every spear as soon as they popped up. No dog is perfect. :-)
