Just beautiful, your garden is exquisite!

Could the Erythrina possible be a E. Bidwillii rather than the Crista Galli?

Red Oak, TX

Ardesia, thanks, It could be E Bidwillii. I am very bad with names, I will post another picture when the flowers have opened fully.

Rita, thanks for the new thread and I'm sorry to read that Mother Nature was not so kind to your area but your faustomirandae is still gorgeous even after your storms. You have a very beautiful back yard garden full of gorgeous flowering plants that you seldom show......loved them all.

your Plumeria looks like something that is growing in my new yard. This plant is rather strange, the trunk grow with nothing on it and then at the end there is the bloom of flowers looks like your picture plumeria. This plant hasn't won me over yet, only because of the bare trunks.... if that makes sense.

Jan, a lot of the plumerias lost their leaves to the unusual cold this past winter. If yours is blooming it must be alive so it should leaf out soon. Everything is out of whack because of the weather.

Sarasota, FL(Zone 9b)

Jan, plumeria does well in this area, but it does need protection in winter if the weather gets cold. I had one that lost all its leaves, then died right back to the ground, but sprouted up with new leaves again last year. Unfortunately, the frosts we had in December 'did it in' permanently this year.

This one is in a pot and I moved it to a protected spot last winter. It has leaves and everything! It likes lots of organic stuff in the soil, fertilizer and regular water.

Can you send a picture of your plant?

I'm waiting on my camera from SIL (we left it behind on our move here and she was so busy with school ending in KY that she just mail it out) and once I get it I will take some pictures and post them.

Your plant looks just like mine except mind don't have leaves and the color is different, but the bloom is the same. Now don't faint anyone, as I was about to pull them from the yard as I just couldn't get over no leaves on them.

I might still be moving them out of the garden, anyone close by want some?

I'm redoing the landscaping for the owner of the house we rent to plants that don't need to be babied over as they aren't really gardener's but they want some plants.

Maybe I will leave them in until the fall round up here and then pot them and bring them to trade. Most of the ones here are at least 3' tall.

Thanks so much for the picture.

No leaves whatsoever, huh? I'd hit it with some fertilizer, keep it watered until rains come, and see what pops.

If our winters would get back to normal, the plumerias will do fine. Just the fact that the one you have survived the last two winters speaks well for it. I'd wait and give the plant a chance to leaf out after you give it a bit of tlc.

They have a great demo garden up at the Manatee County Extension office. If you're going for low-maintenance landscaping, they'd be a lot of help to you.

thanks so much for the Co Ext off info. I'm going to check them out.

there are about 6 plumerias and none of them have leaves. The next street over the curb area is lined with them and they are the strangest looking things with just flowers at the end of bare trucks.

Lovely plants and flowers everyone! I've had an upheaval in my personal life so I haven't had much time to check in the past month or so and will only be around sporadically the next few months until some things are settled.

I have neglected my plants of late but some things are blooming despite my neglect.

A close up shot of my Gloriosa Lily (must be the time of year as I see on the previous thread that this one has been blooming for some of y'all as well):

I love the Plumeria's and sure wish I lived in a zone where they could be planted in the ground. I've always had to grow them in containers here and move them to a well protected area, covered in blankets in the winter. I had about a dozen but gave all of them away to a neighbor except one. They always lose all their leaves in winter here. The blooms smell so awesome ... I kind of wish I had not given them all away, LOL. I thought I had kept my favorite which had large yellow blooms but this is the only plant I have and it has small flowers:

Lin, I was wondering about you ?! Hope all is well and you got a bit of that rain that came thru the other day.
If ya ever want to trade for some of that H. cummingiana, I'm sure I could come up with something ! ( LOL..Hint Hint)

That's how you find the best plants - see which ones reward you even when life turns upside down and you neglect them.

Love those echinaceas, Lin! I can't get them to go through the summer - they peter out by the end of July, like the lavender does.

Good to see you back.

I have two colors of gloriosas twining together - the left one is a hybrid 'Wine & Red' . It's more creamy, and the red is darker. As they age, they turn all maroon.

Beautiful pictures Lin and I sure hope everything works out with what's going on in your life. Hang in there lady.

dyzzy: Your Gloriosa rothschildiana is lovely! I bought seeds from a co-op a year or so ago and it seems like the colors this year are different from last.

I love Echinacea ... they seem to go strong almost all summer here, at least through September! The butterflies and bees love them too ... this picture was taken last summer, a Gulf Fritillary B'fly enjoying an Echinacea bloom:

Thanks Rachel ... the past month has been a trying time for me personally, the first few days of May were extremely difficult, but I'm getting stronger every day. I am blessed to have wonderful family and friends. I'm going to be moving so may not be posting much in the next couple of months but I hope to "lurk" when I get a chance ... seeing everyone's lovely plants is a nice respite from everyday worries!

This "Lady Slipper" Orchid has been blooming for over a month:

Lin, God's speed! Looks like the Sagittifolium!

Rita, Jammin Gardens!

Rachel, What P. is that?

Lin, I sure hope and pray that everything will work out for you and the move. Please keep us posted when you can and that is one very beautiful Cypripedium orchid.

Drew, it is not a Philodendron. I've been scratching my head over it for a while and thinking it may be a Homalomena. Thus far, I've not found a match to be sure so I will have to give it some more time to grow;)

DeLand/Deleon Spring, FL(Zone 8b)

Rachel,
Love your Nepenthes Pitcher Plant I think they are the coolest things.

dzzy, great Gloriosa's. My Red/yellow's are blooming like crazy and I have an all yellow that I grew from seed year before last and it's getting pretty big this year so I'm hoping I see a bloom.

Lin- d-mailing you back...

Rachel, I will have to Google that! Kinda looks like a Philodendron though. I guess I will HAVE to start buying those!

(Zone 1)

peony: That is a neat looking plant! I'd never heard of it either so I had to look it up:
