Planting memorial flowers with dogs ashes

Baton Rouge, LA

Hi all,

My beloved Doberman Julian has lymphoma. We are nearing the end, and I want to plant something beautiful and flowering with her ashes, in her favorite spot to sun herself in the yard. South Louisiana. Any suggestions??

Albany, NY(Zone 5a)

I'm so sorry. I know exactly what you're going through. We lost our English red tick a short time ago. I put peonies over her. Sadly they don't seem to be taking off like I'd hoped. I may plant more.

Ozone, AR(Zone 6a)

My sympathy. It's always so hard.
I've got Tigerlilys next to a blackberry bush on one of mine. He loved blackberrys.

Sorry to hear about Julian! One thing you might consider is finding a plant with the cultivar name Julian to plant in her honor...here are some from Plant Files. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/adv_search.php?searcher%5Bcommon%5D=&searcher%5Bfamily%5D=&searcher%5Bgenus%5D=&searcher%5Bspecies%5D=&searcher%5Bcultivar%5D=%22julian%22&searcher%5Bhybridizer%5D=&searcher%5Bgrex%5D=&search_prefs%5Bblank_cultivar%5D=&search_prefs%5Bsort_by%5D=rating&images_prefs=both&Search=Search&searcher[cultivar]=Julian (unfortunately when you search for cultivar Julian, it also pulls up things like Julianne, Juliana, etc so you'll have to scroll through those too--but there are definitely a bunch in there that are just plain Julian)

Vicksburg, MS(Zone 8a)

My sympathies also--losing a pet is always difficult. If Julian's favorite spot in the sun was out in your yard rather than up against the house, you could use a flowering shrub such as Abelia for her memorial. They are semi-evergreen and stay loaded with pretty flowers (pink on mine) all summer down here in the south.
