Acer palmatum "Bloodgood" (Japanese Maple)

London, United Kingdom

Does this plant loose its leafs in the autumn or does it keep the leafs all year round?

Thanks.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Bloodgoods are deciduous.. they shed their leaves in the Fall and they put out beautiful brilliant purple- red new leaves in the spring.

Thanks for the reply. :)

So during all winter the plant is fully naked with just the bare trunk and arms?

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Pretty much so. But the show in the spring is worth it. This is a picture from December...still holding on, but less than a month later most all the leaves were gone. I am in zone 9a, so takes a bit longer for the leaves to fall...but the color is wonderful.

Beautiful. Thank you! :)

How often should I fertilize it? Can I use regular plant fertilizer?

Yes, you can use a good basic fertilizer like an 8-8-8 or similar. I give mine a good feed in the spring when it first starts leafing out and that seems to keep it happy.
