growing everbearing strawberries

Albany, NY(Zone 5a)

I just planted 2 ozark beauty strawberry, and a fort laramie, and i need help knowing what to do. One of the fort laramie already has berries on it. So I'm too late to pinch the blooms, the ozark has 2 large runners already, & I'm not sure if i should take them off so the plant can focus on rooting or what i should do. Any strawberry growers here who can help? Also; how long will the mother plant bear good fruit? I was under the impression these perennial would last for years, but my brother in law said only 3 years. This will impact the decision to cut back the runners for me in future years.

i would let it grow nice and healthy this year. They do last 3 years...so the question is do you want good production next year from these...ie pinching blooms and cutting off runners. Or do you want more plants next year to start a new patch. I would let them grow. Don't pinch. Keep a few runners and stick them in the soil...give it winter protection and enjoy them next year. Fyi: I saw this really cool strawberry planter I am going to build this year for my strawberries. I will try to post some pics on my blog. Good luck.
