Purple Leaf Sand Cherry: Leaves Curling, Dying

Maynard, MA

I'm sorry I wasn't able to get focused pics--I'll try again if needed. The most notable feature is that the leaves start shriveling, curling, then turning brown and dying. Many leaves seem to have small holes, but I don't think all of them do. I don't see bugs or powdery mildew. The trunk looks the same as last year (I just moved here a year ago)---has a green (lichen?) growth on the bottom, the rest of the branches and trunk look fine.

What is the leaf-death problem? What to do?

It would definitely help if you could post some pictures. If you're having trouble focusing on a leaf, try sticking a piece of paper behind it, that will force the camera to focus on it. A few overall shots of the tree showing the extent of the damage might help too.

I've finally got some pics. It seems I have to add each in separate posts. (?) This one is the whole tree.

Hello

Shaynapearl I think you purple leaf Sand cherry has "fire blight" diseases. ...

Google it...

I Believe when you have fire blight on any tree/shrub you need to remove all and not just cut it down and pile the branches.. they should be burned or taken away.

I had this happen to a Mountain ash.. it took a week to make the tree look like a dead mess
