Plant Swap for July 16 RU at DonnieBrook's

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Something tried to dig up the purple Mornada I got from the RU!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i still have not planted anything from the RU - they are being watered

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I put in about 1/2 so far.. Louise's mondarda got planted with a boat load of water gels this morning.. and I had one from the mid. atlantic swap that I didn't know what it was.. ended up being a magenta monarda .. put them both between the sets of white balloon flowers.. figured some color was needed there.. amazing how many self seeded this year.. white all over .. should have dug more for the swap.. and and Louise your gallant soldier is everywhere here.. Jen pointed it out to me.. and now I know what it is.. but it's everywhere.. and Memory I found your lambs quarters growing in my tomato container.. can't wait to eat it!!

Hallowell, ME

Potted up ours and all is well!!!!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

oh Frank.. I snagged your passionflower.. do you know which it is?

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Oh No. Allison! Fortunately here, the gallant soldier is only in my vegetable garden. I'll give up gardening if it shows up in my flower gardens!!! From what I understand, it is a companion plant to many vegetables. Get it all out before it flowers!

Does anyone remember who gave me this? It was not labeled and I can't recall who gave it to me. Was it you, Marilyn? Anyone know any more about it? I think it is a daylily, but possibly iris?

No, sorry, Louise....not from me.....I labeled everything I brought....

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

I thought so, Marilyn. Even your dwarf iris was labeled (and still is until I make its tag). :) Thanks for letting me know! STay cool!!

Thomaston, CT

I'm trying....a/c and fans are on...cannot let the dogs suffer!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

That was my one lone Liriope

(Pam) Warren, CT(Zone 5b)

Lucky dogs!

Was anyone interested in the iris I sent? Just curious...

We're here in CT for the week. Lucky, because I can water, water, water. And the house is comfortable enough with just a couple of fans, certainly better than being in the city. But this heat is seriously cutting into my git-up-and-git...and I need it all around here!

The only thing I did in the garden today was to pick a few cukes, & water as much as I dared......just too wicked hot.....

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Pam I took the left overs.. and sharing them with neighbors.. thank you very much

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Oh, bummer, Jen, on your sedum! I've had something eating my dahlias and coleus. Do slugs like them?

My plants from the RU have not been planted, either. Being watered, like Bill's. Too many other things to do around here.

yes slugs love coleus... and the reason I rarely plant them in the ground.. sorry
:(

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

I get the ones in the pots eaten, too. I need some Sluggo. Environmentally friendly and safe for pets. http://www.biconet.com/crawlers/sluggo.html

Thanks for the ID, Jen. Now I remember taking it. :)

Boy did I do something DUMB!! I watered the veggies and then got distracted and didn't shut off the water at the garden. The pressure split the hose and really depleted our water, which is now muddy and not drinkable. Ugh

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Oh no!

Thomaston, CT

Oh, Louise.....so sorry! And just when you need a ton of water!

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Yup! No watering allowed, but I planted 4 new little heuchera babies at Cuppatea when Hank went to town for mulch and 6 tons of bottled water. (not quite)....... I watered them and then mulched them good, and used the gels when I planted them. I think gels are the way to go anyway. Every day I've had a new daylily open and they have been really pretty. I am trying a new remedy for the thrips that I read on a Univ. Extension Agent's site. I painted paint stirrer sticks blue and will apply vaseline to them and put them in the ground near the infected DLs. The sticks apparently serve as a trap. I have sprayed the infected plants with insecticidal soap twice too. Celeste - your Pixie Beauty was near some of the ones that are infected, so you might want to soap her down just in case. Most of mine don't seem to have them, but I'm concerned for any that are in the area. Midnight Oil was just covered with them.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

best of luck with the water Louise.. hope you get rain soon!

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Thanks, Allison! It's my own fault! :(. Dumb, Dumb)

Thomaston, CT

I borrowed the farm's label maker, Louise, & I am starting on the project....thank you again!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Oh no! Hope the water situation gets better soon

Oh Louise that stinks. Those darn hoses have a problem every where! I know as one needs to go or Jim. Something has to be done with it.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

So sorry Louise!! Bad timing too.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I planted a bunch of your plants this morning.. and passed out some of Pam's irises to the neighbors.. as well as planted a few of those.. everyone was so excited to have something shared from so far away.. and all said thank you Pam

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Louise, sorry to hear about your water problem. Did you have the sprinkler on, or the nozzle and just the pressure split your hose? I have left mine on numerous times and so far no splitting. Maybe I have good hoses?

Allison, glad to hear Pam's irises are getting some good homes.
