Plum Trees

Utica, OH

We bought 4 apple trees one year and then 2 plums the next. A Big Blue Plum and a Stanley Plum. The reason that I mention the apple trees is to help sort of let you know how long we have had the plums. The apple trees have given us apples the last 3 years, with last year being the first "real" crop. I am thinking the apple trees are at least 6 years old, so that would make the plums 5 years old. We have never gotten the first plum. They look healthy and have lots of leaves. We are on the edge of zone 5 & 6, but most people call it 6. We are in Ohio. Any ideas of what we can do to make sure we get some plums next year? Or maybe some reasons that plum trees haven't given fruit? There have been no blossoms at all.

I cannot even get my plum trees to grow. I planted 2, & they have no leaves. I think it died. But they do lose all their leaves in the winter, but they did not grow back. The same thing had happened to my apple tree. It stood there like a stick for 2 years. So, one day I put the hose to it, & forgot about it. After about a week, I remembered about the hose, & turned it off. After that, the tree started putting out shoots & leaves. It is growing now, but no fruit yet.

I believe stanleys are self pklinating. Your other plum may need another speciesto cross polinat other than the Stanley.

Hi, last year I bought 2 dwarft cherry trees (the purple ones). This year 1 of them has very small cherries, really they looked like wild cherries and the other had none.
Is there a reason for this, will the cherries get bigger the 2nd year? Also the very small cherries were tart and bitter tasting.
Do I need to dig them up and start over?

Thanks,
Wade
