hours of full sun for geraniums

Niles, OH

Hi,
My first time here.
There is a lot of confusion, on my part, about the hours of full sunlight need for a geranium. Someone told me they need the hours from 11 am on to be considered full sun. My plants get sunup to 3pm. Then they are in the shade of my house. Will that work?
Thank you!
PS
I'm not really a beginner gardener, but this has me confused.

Typically 6+ hrs of sun is considered full sun, sounds like that's what you have.

It also depends on what type of geranium. We have some cranesbill geranium, which get whispy with lots of small flowers, that can take some shade and another kind (not sure of variety) that takes lots of shade. Best bet is to take a leaf into a garden center and see what they say.

I agree about only a little sun. I keep mine in partial sun and they are doing great.

I have three Geranium Biokovo plants that I put in last Spring.

All the info I found said these are fine with anywhere from Full Sun to Mostly Shady so I decided to experiment since most of my yard is Shady. I Put one Plant in Full Sun & the other two in an area that's Mostly Shady with periodic Sun & some filtered Sun.

The two in the Shade are doing great, have gotten huge & are covered in blooms that are just starting to open. The one in Full Sun is smaller with less blooms.

Bluestone Perennials shows that some other types of Geraniums do well in Full Sun to Half Sun-Half Shade, but I don't have any personal experience with them. They also show that Cranesbill Geraniums can take Full Sun to Mostly Shady.

By-the-way, I highly recommend the Geranium Biokovo. It's a beautiful plant covered with small Pink-centered White flowers. The foliage smells like Apple Blossoms and in the Autumn the foliage turns Red! It comes from the Biokovo Mountains in Europe.

I'll try to take some pictures when the blooms open more.
