At the end of March I planted 12 creeping phlox plants about 12 inches apart in a square on a bare patch in my garden. I surrounded each plant with hardwood mulch. So far the plants have not spread as much as I thought they would. Has the mulch inhibited them or am I being impatient?
phlox won't creep
They need time to get their roots going first before you'll see much growth above ground. There's an old saying about perennials: first year they sleep, second year they creep, third year they leap. Some plants don't take quite that long to get going, but 2 months isn't very long.
