I live in New Mexico which is NOT the place to grow persimmons, I know, but I love them. After four attempts, I finally got a Prox persimmon well-established. This fall it was five years in the ground. Then---disaster. We had an awful winter, first very dry (I watered religiously, however), then very cold (6 above for two weeks in Jan.), followed by exceptionally warm weather in late March, followed by a late kiiling freeze on May 1. My poor tree's tiny branches all died back. The entire tree didn't leaf out until May 14. It's clearly very, very stressed. How can I help save this tree?
