Trying to grow spearmint from seed

I've been trying to get my spearmint seeds to germinate and seem to be having a difficult time. I tried the instructions on the package, but I haven't been successful at all. I'm currently trying the ziplock bag and paper towel method.

Does anyone have any experience with starting this plant as a seed? How long does it take to germinate?
