Dear Gardner,
I recently, bought a "Tibouchina Urvilleana" online and the plant was fine at
the arrival time. I noticed that soon after I had placed the plant in soil
that these brown spots with holes in them developed on the leaves. This
concerns me because I wonder if I am using the right soil. I talked to the
nursery I purchased from online and they recommended using "Azaela Soil."
I was at Home Depot and a Lady did not know about the "Tibouchina Urvilleana"
and said she recommended "Peat Moss." Could you tell me if "Azaela Soil" is
better than "Peat Moss" for the plant. Can you tell me how often a week should
water this plant? Should I be feeding this plant any kind of plant food? Thank you
for taking the time, patience and understanding regarding this email.
Sincerely,
Kevin
My Tibouchina Urvilleana
Bacterial spot from shipping. No big deal. just spray with liquid copper feed heavy and lots of water three weeks wil be like new. Plant grows in anything. Dont worry
steve
Hi Kevin. Steve is right...Tibouchinas will grow just fine in regular garden soil. Mine get minimal care....I cut back any deadwood in spring and give them a good dose of Osmocote when I mulch and soak them. After that they get regular feedings of Miracle Grow(every 2-3 weeks) and water once a week if it doesn't rain. They freeze back to the ground if we have rude winters, but always manage to come back strong.
