curly garlic protects roses?

Lancaster, PA

Does garlic repel aphids? Where can I buy a curly variety? I saw an article on companion plants that says garlic would improve the smell of the roses. When I mentioned this to a local master gardener, she said that they would also repel aphids. I am ready to plant a bunch around my roses. Can I do that now, rather than in the fall?

The only "curly" garlic I know is that some garlic varieties put out a seed stalk/head that actually curls... and I grow a lot of different garlics.

You could plant them now but they may not produce a garlic bulb, although they will work to repel some pests. Plant or Replant in fall for a spring crop.
