My Black Knight butterfly bush I planted in late March (zone 5 Ohio) was recently ran over with a lawnmower and clipped all the way to the dirt. Will this still survive and come back or should I give up and plant a new one?
Black Knight Butterfly Bush ran over with lawnmower
They're pretty tough, I expect it'll come back.
Based on my experience with Butterfly Bushes, it will be back in no time. Butterfly Bushes are very resilient.
All the same, I would put a marker near it or a little bit of garden fencing aorund it to prevent any more mow-overs this season :) Good luck!
In zone 5 it will die back to the roots every winter. It always comes back.
