Fertilizer Burn

Jonesville, SC(Zone 7b)

I fertilized my beans a little bit too early in their growth development this year and several of the plants now have fertilizer burn. Some plants are all the way burnt and while others have maybe 50% and others have little to none. My questions are: 1. If the plants are badly burnt, will they recover? 2. Is there anything I can do to save them? Thanks for the responses.

It's hard to say for sure whether they'll recover or not, you'll have to wait and see. The ones that are almost totally burnt may not make it, and the ones that have little to no burn will probably be OK but the ones in between it's hard to predict--chances are some will make it and some won't. I would water them thoroughly to try and flush out some of the excess fertilizer, but be careful on this--you don't want to overwater them and make the roots rot since that will kill them too. If your soil has really good drainage you can probably help them out by flushing them with water, but if your soil is heavier you may not be able to do too much. (I'm assuming you have them in the ground--if by some chance they're in pots I would repot them...knock off as much of the old fertilizer-contaminated soil as you can in the process and get them some fresh dirt)
