Fatsia Japonica yellowing new leaves

Winston Salem, NC(Zone 7b)

I got 2 fatsia plants last year, and they made it through the winter and seemed to be doing well, but now they are getting a lot of yellowing leaves. I'm puzzled b/c it is some of the bigger ones and some new growth, but even other new leaves look healthy.

I looked into nutrient problems and it seemed like maybe an iron or sulphur deficiency, but I can't tell which -or if it is either- for sure.

Any ideas?

I'm in 7b. The soil was clay but I amended it a LOT and thought it was enough.

Mine develops some yellow leaves and I just remove them. I think it is just what they do, much like Pine trees shed needles that are 2 years old.

It's not iron deficiency--that causes leaves to yellow but the veins stay green. Has it been raining a lot lately? Chances are the roots have grown beyond your amended planting hole by now (unless you amended a really large area) so they're probably out in your clay soil now and if there's been a lot of rain it could be a bit waterlogged.

Thanks!

It has been wet lately. They are in a larger bed that I amended, but I'm worried maybe it needs even more organic matter and that the clay is the trouble. Do you know if they are fussy about being disturbed? I could re-plant them, or try to work around them.

If it's been wetter than usual lately then they're probably fine where they are and should recover when things dry out a bit.
