We planted a Lady Banks Rose when we were building our home about 3-4 years ago and pretty much neglected it in the flurry of activities getting the house completed. It has never been pruned. It grew up under the eaves of our house and knarled itself back over and now we're going to try and salvage as much as we can of the vine and see if it'll cover the carport where it grows. The question I have is that I noticed this year that the bark of the main stalk looks like it is either peeling or splitting so can anyone tell me what caused that, how bad it is and what we can do. Any other suggestion on pruning after so long.
Lady Banks Rose
Peeling bark is normal for Banksias. Here is some info on pruning.
