I posted this on Ask-a-Gardener but I can't wait anymore. These lovely squash plants (I think they are butternut squash) came up in our compost in early March beautifully, but started showing signs of tearing at the end of April. When I inspect them, there aren't any bugs on them other than an ant or two each leaf. What could be eating them, is this normal tearing, and what could I do to prevent further ripping in the leaves if it's not good for the plant? Thank you and hope the picture helps. Val
What's eatin' you?
Do you have earwigs? You won't see them in the day. I've gone out at like 11pm or later with my LED flashlight and sure enough, found earwigs making eating on my plants. I hear everyone is having problems with the earwigs these days. Diatomaceous Earth or Sevin works to get rid of them. (Sevin works faster but also is not organic and can harm bees)
Yes! I do. I see those nasty looking bugs when I'm turning over my compost or planting something new in my flower bed. Yuck... Always wondered what those things were but knew in the back of my mind they weren't good news. Thank you for your post!
