Can squash plant stems be planted deep (like tomatoes)

New Harbor, ME(Zone 5a)

I planted my squash plants two weeks ago and did not use grow lights (I planted too many tomato plants and had no room for any thing else). Now my squash plants have 6 inch stems, can I plant the stems up tp the first set of true leaves (like tomatoes) or should I just dump the plants and plant squash seeds in the garden? Thanks, I can't believe all the newbie mistakes I am making, next year I am getting more grow lights.

Plant them at the depth that they are curently growing otherwise the stems may rot off in the ground. I learned the hard way.

Heroncove13,
Newbies & mistakes go together like PB&J!

When I was an Ubernewbie, I grew 3 cabbages for 9 months cause I planted seedlings at the end of May, right before our Texas scortcher!

Now, I know better!

I'm with aquannie. But, I'd plant them, and also plant seeds. I can't stand to throw away plants, but I'd back them up. If you have room (or when you have room) you could also start more under lights, to give them more growing time. Squash won't do much until it's pretty warm, and I think you'll have to wait for that :(.
