I would really appreciate some feedback from you more experienced gardeners here. My euonymus shrubs have been looking sickly lately . . . lack of color and just droopy. I haven't fertilized them in the 3 years since I've planted them. So yesterday I applied some fertilizer with a high nitrogen content (Vigoro Tree Shrub Food 16-4-8) I worked the stuff into the soil with some soil enhancer, watered the shrubs . . . then last night we had a good rain. Today I'm looking at the shrubs and I swear they look much better . . . They look greener and less sickly. Am I imagining things? Have you ever seen improvement in one day? I know that when I water my droopy camellias in the summer, they look dramatically better the next day . . so I have seen one-day turn-around in that respect . . . . But with fertilizer? I'd be curious to hear your opinions about this. Thanks.
Fast response to fertilization
It could be the rain--rain always makes my plants happier than water from the hose. I've had things that just looked a bit sad even though I was watering them, and then along comes a nice rain and they perk up and look happy again.
It's very possible that your plants were starving. Just watch the nitrogen. Too much will kill the plants.
