Lighting indoor plants

Edgefield, SC

I am really wanting to have indoor plants (other than the few small ones I can squish in on my windowsill). The problem is that I have very little sun coming into the house due to all the pecan trees in the yard. I have an aquarium fixture that is 30" long and has a T6 24w white bulb and a T6 24w blue actinic bulb in it. Could I hang this fixture over a counter and put plants there? If so, how far up would I need to hang it?
In case it matters, I would like to have a peace lily, a philodendron, a variegated pothos, an aloe, and maybe a prayer plant.... kind of whatever catched my eye when I go shopping this weekend. :)
Thanks!!

Yes you can do that, hang it about 4-5 inches above the plants and keep it on about 12-14 hours a day.

Ok, thank you!

This topic interests me because I have a 50-gallon empty fish aquarium with various houseplants inside. There is a 48" shop light resting on the top of the open tank. Since the shop light is 48" and the tank itself is about 40", there is a bit of overhang. The point is that I have not had to actually HANG the light but just plug it in and rest it on top of the open tank.

The plants inside get rearranged from time to time according to their growth; they are perched on wood blocks of various heights so that they are about 6" under the lights. I'll post a picture ASAP. It's just an idea.

By the way, the plants are doing great!
