Crowded radishes doomed?

Brooklyn, NY

Hi! I have my first garden here, and having some trouble!
I've planted everything in self-watering planters I made out of 5-gallon paint buckets. My "Philadelphia White Box" radishes should be ready any day now (30 days from planting) and I was nervous, so I dug one up to see if it was almost ready. There was no bulb. The roots seemed nice, but no bulb at all. The sunlight and watering may not be IDEAL, but I thnk my biggest problem is likely that I planted them too close and then didn't thin them enough. The seed packet says to thin them to 2-3" apart, but since I had such a small space, I kept them about 1" or less apart. I just thinned them, but I'm worried that these are already doomed and maybe I should just tear them all out and start again from seed. What do you think?
I've also cheated on the thinning of my other plants: peas, lettuces, spinach, and tat soi. The peas seemed to be coming along nicely but the others are pretty tiny. Do you think I should thin them down to the suggested distances or start anew from seed?
THANK YOU!

When i plant radishes. I scatter the seeds, mixed with a handful of sand. This helps keep them thinly sowed. But when they start making bulbs we thin them out by pulling the ones with bulbs as soon as they make. They will keep on making for awhile.
I was late planting mine and they are'nt even up yet. LOL

I'd give them some time, I find that package estimates are often a bit optimistic:)

I crowd stuff, but I do thin as it grows, and usually use the thinnings.
