Several tomato questions...

Parker, KS(Zone 5b)

I am new to gardening. This will be my 3rd gardening season.

Last year, my tomatoes split down the sides. I was talking to someone at work and they told me that it was because I was watering them too much, too late in the growing season. So, how much water do tomatoes need? How do I tell if I have watered them enough?

It is hot and dry in KS in July, so I was watering them until water was standing on the surface at the base of the stems, watering the rest of the garden while that soaked in and then rewatering them a little more. If something needs an inch of water a week, when watering with a hose, how does one tell when you have watered an inch? Just using an inch as a hypothetical.

When rotating crops in the garden, how far must you rotate them? My plot is about 15 feet wide and last year, I planted tomotoes down one side in 2 rows and 2 rows of green beans down the other. Can I just rotate the placement of the tomaotes and green beans this year?

My mom swears by putting a handful of bone meal and a handful of blood meal in the holes when planting the tomatoes and then sprinkling a circle of epsom salt about a foot away from the stem. What do these do for the tomotoes?

I am planting JetStar, Sugary something (can't remember the name) cherry tomatoes and Mater Sandwiches. I was told by someone at work that I needed to plant Balck Krim. So, I will if I can find them.

Thanks!
Cassie
