radishes growing close to/on top of surface

Arlington, MA(Zone 6a)

i thought i had planted my radishes 1/2" under the surface but they seem to be growing very close to or even on top of the surface. should i sprinkle some soil on top or will they "pull" down into the soil. has anyone else had this issue?

Radishes grow with tops above ground. Covering them may impede development.

I'll agree with Farmerdill , keep in mind of the size you are growing as letting them stay in the ground too long will only result in the radishes splitting and going to waste .

there are many types that grow larger and the tops will always stick up above the ground .

i am not talking about the tops peeking out; my the whole seedling is on top, with just the roots anchoring them. unfortunately i wont' have my camera available to show you until monday.

In that case i would loosen the soil round them and turn the ground in the area you intend to "replant" them i had to do this last year after a hard storm . i did so in the late eve and watered them well they looked as if they would die for two days yet each evening i would give them a good watering (when the sun was not on them they soon took off and grew a good batch of radishes .

just remember not to bury them over the crown / head of the radish .

Some eat the greens. i see them at the produce section sometimes. Had someone tried them?

the greens are very good to eat mush like a spicy add to a salad.

Thanks and I will try them.

I wonder if your soil is too acid. Sometimes root crops don't like the acid soil and try to get out -- LOL
